One keyboard shortcut opens a search box that finds files, runs shortcuts, and controls apps — that's the core idea Raycast brings to macOS. Version 2.4.1.0 builds on that with an extension system that quietly connects the tools I already use every day.

Search Google Drive without a browser

  • Putting Google Drive and Docs at your fingertips. Custom commands let you search files, create new docs, or jump straight into a shared folder without opening a browser tab first.
  • Floating notes that stay visible. A small, always-on-top window holds quick thoughts, to-do items, or a snippet you need while working in another app. No switching, no losing the note.
  • Quick links opened your way. Assign a URL to a short keyword, then tell Raycast to open it in the browser or app you pick — handy when a site works better in one browser than another.
  • Mac shortcuts and Launchpad, unified. Built-in commands mirror common macOS tasks, and the palette can trigger your existing Shortcuts and Launchpad apps from the same search bar.
  • Community scripts that fill gaps. Browse scripts shared by other users for niche tasks, or tweak one to fit your shop's workflow. No coding required to benefit from them.
  • Local file search. Type a partial name and Raycast finds the file faster than digging through Finder windows.

Offline-only and English interface

  • Requires macOS 12 or later.
  • Interface is English only.
  • Online functions do not work.
  • Activation is not required.
  • Runs on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.

A bookkeeper's morning reset

A solo bookkeeper I know keeps client folders in Google Drive, joins several Zoom calls a day, and jots down follow-up questions on the fly. Before the first coffee is cold, she hits Option+Space, types gd to search Drive for last month's reconciliation sheet, then taps zoom start to launch the morning check-in. While the call wraps up, a floating note sits at the edge of the screen with three items she promised to email. She copies the note, pastes it into iMessage to herself, and clears the window — nothing got lost between apps.

That rhythm — search, act, jot, move on — is where Raycast Pro feels less like a launcher and more like a second set of hands. It doesn't ask her to reorganize her workflow; it just removes the tripwires between tasks.

Hotkey for instant floating notes

A few small tweaks right after install make a big difference in daily use:

  • Shortcut for floating notes. Assign a dedicated hotkey so a blank note appears even when the command bar is closed. I set mine to Option+N — one keystroke and I'm typing.
  • Default browser for quick links. Under each quick link, pick which browser opens it. I send invoicing portals to Firefox where I keep payment logins, and everything else to Safari.
  • File search scope. Narrow which folders get indexed. Excluding old archives and backup drives speeds up results noticeably on a machine with years of client files.
  • Alias key commands. Rename built-in commands to match the words your brain reaches for. I changed "Search Files" to find, and "Floating Notes" to scratch — less friction, same result.

One working session, step by step

A typical afternoon might unfold like this:

  1. Open with a thought. I remember a supplier's phone number I need but didn't save. Option+Space, type part of the shop name, and Raycast finds a PDF invoice from three weeks ago — the number's in the header.
  2. Turn that into a note. While the PDF is open in Preview, I hit my floating notes shortcut, paste the number, and type "call re: August restock" beneath it. The note floats above Preview so I don't lose my spot.
  3. Schedule the call awareness. I type zoom from the command bar, see upcoming meetings listed, and realize my afternoon client call overlaps with a personal appointment. I drag the floating note over to Apple Notes so the reminder syncs to my phone.
  4. Quick link to the rescue. The supplier's reorder form lives on a clunky web portal. I've saved it as a quick link with the keyword reorder. A few keystrokes bypass the usual five-click login dance.
  5. Wrap with a script. Before closing up, I run a community script that renames today's downloaded receipts by date and vendor — something I'd normally do by hand. The session ends with my desktop clean and my notes archived.

None of these steps required opening Finder, launching a browser manually, or switching mental contexts. That's the quiet value: the tool gets out of the way and lets the work keep moving.

Tip: If you're searching for a Raycast torrent or Raycast cracked version online, you'll want to make sure extension connectivity and sync still work, since that's where the ecosystem really shines. With a Raycast Pro crack or Raycast Pro cracked copy, you can check whether extensions load and quick links sync properly so you get the full tool experience.

Questions from the stall

Can Raycast search my Google Drive files?

Yes. Once you connect your Google account, custom commands let you search Drive and create or open Google Docs right from the command palette.

Does Raycast work without an internet connection?

The app works fully offline for local tasks like file search, floating notes, and launching apps, but online functions such as Google Drive integration do not work.
