SoyaSoftware

Useful Mac software for makers and small shops

Terms of service

This catalog is a one-person project built and maintained by me, Mei Lin Zhou. I put it together because choosing the right tool, and knowing when it gets a meaningful update, matters when you’re running a tiny shop on your own. I want this to be a calm, useful place for makers and small teams. These terms explain how the site works and what I expect from anyone who joins the conversation.

Moderation and comments

Every comment is read by me before it appears on the site. While a comment waits, the author sees it marked “awaiting moderation.” I approve comments that add real experience or a helpful pointer for other readers. I decline comments that feel off-topic, argumentative for no reason, or unkind. I also remove comments that slip through if I later realize they break the rules below. Because this is a small operation, I don’t have the capacity to debate every moderation decision. If a comment doesn’t show up, that choice is final.

Comment rules

Keeping the discussion honest and constructive matters a great deal to me. When you comment, you agree to follow these rules:

  • No abuse. Don’t attack people, threaten anyone, or use hateful language. Disagreeing about software is fine; being cruel is not.
  • No sharing other people’s private data. Don’t post phone numbers, home addresses, email addresses that aren’t your own, or anything else someone would reasonably want kept private.
  • No spam or links to malware. Don’t post repetitive promotional messages, scripts, or links that point to harmful software. A genuine recommendation with context is okay; a drive-by link isn’t.
  • No impersonation. Don’t pretend to be someone else, whether that’s a developer, another commenter, or a public figure.

If someone ignores these rules, I may delete their comments and close their account without notice.

Accounts

You can browse the whole catalog without an account. If you want to save programs to your favourites, get a notification when a saved program is updated, or leave a comment, you’ll need a free account. When you sign up, please use a real email address that belongs to you, and keep your password private. One person per account — no shared logins. I don’t send marketing messages or newsletters, so the only email you’ll ever receive from the site is directly related to your account (like a password reset link). If I believe an account is being used to break these terms, I may suspend or close it.

Copyright in the site texts

All the writing on this site — the program descriptions, the installation notes, the editorial text, and the site structure — is my original work. It’s part of how I earn a living. Please don’t copy large chunks of it and publish them elsewhere without asking first. Short, attributed quotes are generally fine. If you’re unsure whether your use is okay, please reach out. The software listed here belongs to its respective developers and publishers; their names, logos, and product descriptions are their own intellectual property.

Linking and fair use

You’re welcome to link to any page on this site from your own blog, social media, or newsletter. I ask that you don’t frame or republish the full content of a page in a way that makes it seem like your own. If you spot an error in a description or a compatibility note, I’d love to hear about it — corrections make the site better for everyone.

Changes to the terms

I may update these terms as the site grows or as I learn what works and what doesn’t. When I change them, I’ll update the text on this page and note the revision date at the bottom. For significant changes, I’ll also add a short notice to the site footer for a couple of weeks. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms. If a change doesn’t work for you, I understand, and you’re free to close your account.

Getting in touch

If you have questions about these terms, need to report a problem, or just want to suggest an app the catalog is missing, please write to me at [email protected]. I read every message. I can’t always reply the same day — running a shop and maintaining a catalog fills the hours pretty quickly — but I do check the inbox regularly, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
